Tuesday’s Scrape

4 06 2009

This week has been ugly for quite a few people we know. Considering the scope of other people’s problems, ours in hardly worth mentioning.

AJ and I work together auditing liquor for bars and restaurants. On Tuesday we finished up a particularly long and strenuous audit and were anxious to get home. AJ went out to open up the car while I packed up our equipment. He came storming back in when he found this:

Car-Scrape

The parking spaces at this restaurant are small, and the person who had parked beside us swiped our car.

The white mark wipes off, but Eagle Eye AJ spied a slight dent, which got him hot under the collar. We spent the next hour and a half reviewing the security video to identify the perp, and speaking with the police to find our recourse.

The person who hit us owns a local kayak rental company. Over the course of the day he came and went multiple times, parking on either side of our car. His truck is too large for the small parking spaces and the video showed him having difficulty getting in and out of the spots.

We got his brochure from the bait shop where we also got wind that he is not known for his integrity. We had hopes of receiving an apology and possibly an offer to pay for paintless dent removal.

Today is Thursday and we have heard nothing back. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that he does not intend to respond to our call or that of the police officer who went out of his way to put us in touch. We could contact his insurance company and cause a stink, but the negativity that would release into the Universe seems disproportionate to the aggravation.

I sent an email through his business website to express my disappointment in the way he chose to handle this situation. I will not smear him online, but I will be sure to use the power of “Word of Mouth” anytime I have the chance to recommend another kayak rental service.

That really sucks. Here’s a story for you. I got hit in two parking lots recently! In Nov and older woman who smelled of Jack Danials backed into me after I had pulled out pf my parking spot. She cried and apologized and we exchanged insurance and ph#s. She and I spoke on the phone and she again apologized, etc… Two days later her ins company calls and tells me that they will not be covering my damage because she told them a diff story. What???? BUT they will pay half my deductible… bah blah blah. It’s Thanksgiving and we were traveling to see family… so I make plans in mid December to take my car to be fixed. The Friday before I’m to take my car… I get hit in a parking lot while I am inside the building!!! As I return to my car there is a woman waiting for me… apologizing, etc… BUT this time I had been parked in a “not really a parking place” kinda spot. So I really felt it was partially/ if not all my fault. Get this… she didnt agree… said it was her fault… and her insurance company agreed and paid for all the damage.

Wow, what a crazy story. Glad you came out ahead on that one. Reminds me of the time I was wheeling someone’s yard in high school and backed into a palm tree with my dad’s mustang. A week later got rear-ended at the beach and her insurance company paid for everything. Not happening this time. We are stuck paying a deductible on our insurance. Yesterday, we found out that the people had put a new tire on their uninsured vehicle and were getting ready to drive it. Called the cops on them, again. Some people!
